Brandon T. Crowther

Brandon T. Crowther

Variety is the spice of life. Those are words I live by.

My professional background is in law and I have been a practicing attorney in Utah for over ten years. However, before that, I majored in actuarial science because I am passionate about math, statistics, and economics. I knew that I was going to law school, so I picked a major that would let me learn what I love, and I'm still passionate about data analysis and love using it in my web design/SEO work.

My hobbies are ever expanding. I love technology, literature, games (board and video), and helping others to learn and grow. Learning is also an integral part of my life. I love studying genetics, neuroscience, and the basic concepts in astrophysics. The world is a beautiful place and I am lucky to have a place in it.

At this point, I've monetized many of my hobbies (it's often easier to pursue them when I can justify the financial component), but I'm always looking for my next favorite thing. Please reach out if you sense an opportunity for us to work together.

Attorney

My legal career so far has been varied and rewarding. I joined the law firm of Preston & Scott, a boutique law firm in Salt Lake City, right out of law school and had the privilege of learning from two great mentors.

As a boutique firm, we focus on a few primary areas of law, but also assist in a variety of areas to the extent we are able. I have deeply specialized in commercial litigation, employment law (representing employers), and commercial real estate financing. I also have experience in estate planning, bankruptcy, intellectual property, and a hint of family law. Much of this secondary experience has come directly from providing assistance to others who would otherwise be overwhelmed with the complexity of the legal system.

Mediator

Having been a litigator for over a decade, I understand the toll that litigation takes on people: financially, mentally, and through a huge time-commitment. While problems need to be resolved, I try to help my clients work through their issues outside of the legal process as much as possible.

I am currently working to extend this hands-on training with formal mediation training, so that I can help others to work through their problems. There are always two sides of a story and often middle ground for resolution of issues. I aim to make a difference in people's lives by helping them be heard in a meaningful way and to more fully understand and resolve disputes.

You can learn more about my available mediation services at Utah Professional Mediation Services.

Editor

I have always been a voracious reader and had a deep love of literature. I also tend to be very focused on the details of life and getting words right, especially spelling and grammar. All of this was refined in law school where I had to obsessively study citation formatting (thank you Bluebook) and then edited articles for publication in the school's student-run law review.

Although I edited books for friends as early as in law school, it wasn't until much later that I started editing as a side gig, now getting paid for doing what I love: reading and correcting literature. While I started out with a great ability to correct the technical aspects of writing: spelling, wording, and grammar, I quickly discovered a greater love for the story and storytelling in general. I now find equal, if not more, joy in working to improve story and character beats, alongside the emotional structure of whatever I'm editing.

I currently run a series of editing brands, each with a different focus. Feel free to check them out:

I'm always looking to put my editing skills to work in new ways, so please reach out if you have an idea of how we might work together.

Aspiring Author

I used to genuinely believe I lacked the creativity to be a writer. Perhaps that is still true, but it no longer holds me back from writing as a creative pursuit. At any given moment, I have various manuscripts in different stages of development. Because I write primarily as a creative outlet, I suspect few of these will ever see wide release, but who knows?

Currently published projects include a series of goofy children's books about a monster named Bumpy. You can read more on the at Brandon T. Crowther: Author.

I am also very nterested in collaborating with other authors to tell cool stories and bring them to the world. If you have a cool idea for how we might work together (like if you are drafting a legal thriller), please reach out.

Web Developer/SEO Enthusiast

My background in web development began in high school where I taught myself HTML (and dabbled in the C programming language). Since then, I have developed various websites to support and expand my interests (only some of which are linked on this page). I pride myself in running each of these projects (including this one) with no upkeep costs beyond the small cost of the domain, using a variety of free services, such as GitHub.

As part of this process, I have done extensive research and work with search engine optimization (SEO) to drive organic traffic to my sites, claiming dozens of top search results on Google and reaching an audience in the tens of thousands each month.

Currently, I only offer consulting services in these areas, albeit at a corresponding modest cost for the limited services. If you are interested in discussing more how to build quality websites and optimize them for SEO, reach out.
